Even though both, Hoop Houses & Greenhouses are used much the same way, there is a difference in design, construction & cost. Often individual’s may use the term greenhouse when describing a hoop house and vise versa.
Hoop Houses are simply round Quonset style greenhouses, without sidewalls. They are far less costly to construct and maintain.
When shopping on the internet or catalogs for greenhouses, most often people see photos of large, straight sided greenhouses then seeing the prices and shipping cost they then find our website.
Often customers ask us if they can install these round hoops into tall side post (6’ or more) as they are intent on building a greenhouse that resembles the photos of tall side wall greenhouses. First you must understand that the round hoop house design get’s its strength from the near true half circle form, when you install hoops on top of 6’ post, you are increasing the wind pressure load on the structure to a dangerous level. These hoops can be safely installed on vertical post up to 24” provided the post are at least 16 gage or better, any higher than that is flirting with serious problems.
Many of our customers have sent us photos of their hoop houses, they have built very nice units at a fraction of the cost of factory made greenhouses. Take a few moments to look at our customer photos and comments.
